IAEA Board of Governors Meeting

Statement by Mr Jarrod Powell, Alternate Resident Representative of Australia to the IAEA

Agenda Item 10: The IAEA and the COVID-19 Pandemic

18 June 2020

Chair,

Australia commends the Director General and the IAEA for its efforts to assist Member States in combatting the COVID-19 pandemic, and for ensuring the continued application and verification of nuclear safeguards throughout the crisis.

In these unprecedented and enormously challenging times, and in the face of rapidly evolving circumstances, the Agency has been steadfast in supporting the Member States and fulfilling its important role.

Chair,

Australia is proud to have contributed to the Technical Cooperation project delivering test kits and training to Member States. The collective approach demonstrated by Member States has illustrated the importance and effectiveness of multilateral cooperation in addressing global challenges.

We look forward to further discussions on the impact of the pandemic on the Agency and its activities.

Thank you.
