Election Announcement

ACT Legislative Assembly election - Saturday 20 October 2012

Overseas voting will be by postal vote only.

The ACT Electoral Commission website www.elections.act.gov.au provides comprehensive information for ACT residents, whether they are in the ACT, interstate or overseas during the election period, about voting in the ACT Legislative Assembly election.

Applications for a postal vote may be made directly by a person online at the above website. An online application may also be made on behalf of another person with their authorisation. These measures allow for the processing of postal votes to be undertaken and sent to applicants more quickly; a major consideration with overseas voters.

Postal voting material, including a ballot paper, will be mailed daily to the person who has applied for a postal vote at their nominated postal address from 2 October onwards.

If ballot papers are to be posted overseas, an application must be received by the ACT Electoral Commission by 5pm Canberra time on Friday 12 October. To allow for delivery before the cut off.

Voters need to return their ballot paper in the pre-printed envelope provided in their pack, with appropriate postage for return airmail to Australia.

In order to be admitted to the count, completed postal vote material must be posted no later than Saturday 20 October and must reach the ACT Electoral Commission by 5pm on 26 October.
